Community Life and Local Events

The cultural and linguistic diversity of India has been carried over with organizations such as the Punjabi Cultural Society, Bengali Association, Bihar Cultural Association, Tamil Nadu Foundation, Telugu Association, Maharashtra Mandal and several Gujarati associations. For those who wish to pursuit their interest in Indian classical music and dance, there are several Indian classical dance and music academies in the Chicago area.

Located near the northwestern suburbs is Devon street which is considered one of the busiest Indian commercial streets in the U.S. Devon street provides a lively glimpse of India and is frequented by both Indians and Pakistanis due to the wide variety of Indian restaurants, grocery stores, boutiques, electronic stores, video and entertainment shops and jewelry shops located here.
