Entry and Duration of Status (D/S) For F-1 Students
-
Students may enter the U.S. a maximum of 30 days prior to the start of their program.
-
F-1 students are given duration of status (D/S) upon entry. D/S means that the student's status does not expire until 60 days after both the educational program and practical training are completed.
-
The sixty days allotted for departure may be used to prepare for departure, change to H-1B or another status, or transfer to another school.
-
A student may become out of status if the student works without authorization, falls below full-time without permission, transfers without permission, fails to complete his course of study and is ineligible for extension, or has left the U.S. for more than five months.
