Naturalization Requirements
The naturalization process, the road to citizenship, represents the end of a long journey for most immigrants. It is the final step in the course of immigration procedures, where a Permanent Resident becomes a U.S. citizen.
General requirements that an applicant must meet prior to applying for citizenship include the following:

18 years if age or older;
- A legal permanent resident of the U.S.;
- A period of continuous residence and physical presence in the U.S.;
- Minimum residence period in a USCIS District prior to filing in that district;
- Ability to read, write and speak English;
- Knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government;
- Good moral character;
- Attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution;
- A favorable disposition toward the U.S.
