Korean Consulate General in Chicago is in charge of providing passport and various civil administrative services for Korean nationals residing in 13 Midwestern states and visa services for U.S. citizens interested in visiting or doing business in Korea.

Business and Trade Information

 

Korean Consulate General in Chicago website provides information on investment opportunities in Korea and provides links to following government and trade organizations for individuals and U.S. corporations interested in pursuing business opportunities in Korea.

  • Korea Investment Service Center (KISC), a subagency of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), provides investment-related administrative support and consultation on investment including M & As, joint ventures and real estate acquisition in Korea as well as legal and tax advice.
  • Korea International Trade Association (KITA), a largest non-profit business association in Korea, provides business arrangements and trade consulting services for foreign companies.  KITA also provides grievance reporting services for foreign trading companies.   In addition, KITA offers a company directory, Korea trade statistics, and information on upcoming trade exhibitions on its website.

Korean Visa Service

 

U.S. citizens who wish to stay in Korean less than 30 days for travel or transient stopover do not need a Korean Visa.  For those U.S. citizens who wish to stay in Korean for longer than 30 days and for the purposes other than travel need to obtain an appropriate Korean visa.  Normally, it takes 2-3 business days to process a visa application.

 

List of required documents for all visa applications

 

1. Valid passport and 1 copy of its personal data page
2.  A visa application
3.  A passport-style photo (2x2, color)

4. Visa Fee: US citizen $45 (non US citizen: check with visa section)

  • Pay to : Korean Consulate General
  • Cash accepted if applies in person

5. Self-addressed, pre-paid return envelope
6. Foreign nationals with U.S. permanent residency: copy of Alien Registration Card (front & back)

 

Extension of Visa

  • Request for extension of visa validity can be submitted 1 year before or after the expiration date of the current passport.
  • A visitor with a special long-term visa is required to apply for alien registration at a local immigration office within 90 days of arrival in Korea.
