USCIS Extends Validity Period for Expiring/Expired Green Cards

In response to delays processing and issuing replacement Green Cards, the government is extending the validity period of those that are expired or expiring soon. U.S. Permanent Residents who properly filed Form I-90 to replace their Green Cards will have the validity period of their current card extended by 24 months. On September 26, the government began sending amended receipt notices to Permanent Residents who received only the former 12-month extension. Receipt notices providing the 24-month extension plus the expired Green Card may be presented as evidence of continued status.

Permanent Residents seeking Green Card replacement for another reason may obtain a stamp on their passport as evidence of status by filing Form I-90 and making an appointment at a USCIS Field Office.
