New I-693 Medical Exam Rules

Published: Friday, June 13, 2014

As of June 1, 2014, USCIS started applying new rules for filing the Form I-693, Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record. The new rules require that the form be submitted less than one year after it is completed and signed by the U.S. Civil Surgeon. Additionally, the form will be valid for only one year from the date it is submitted to USCIS. Thus, if more than one year passes from the date of the form’s submission to USCIS, and the adjustment application has not yet been adjudicated, a new medical examination will be required.

As a consequence of these changes, USCIS has decided to allow the I-693 to be submitted at any time during or after filing the initial application, but before the application has been adjudicated. They have given applicants three options of filing the form:

  1. Submit the form with the initial adjustment application packet
  2. Wait to submit the form in response to USCIS’ Request for Evidence
  3. Submit the form at the time of the adjustment interview
