B-1/B-2 Visas
A B-1 visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa for persons who intend to enter the United States for a short-term business visit. A B-1 visa holder may seek admission for legitimate activities of a commercial or professional nature such as business meetings, conferences, or consultations in the United States.
A B-2 visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa for persons wishing to enter the United States temporarily for pleasure, such as to visit family or to tour the United States.
Applicants for admission in B-1 or B-2 status must present specific and realistic plans for the entire period of the visit and establish with reasonable certainty that departure from the U.S will occur upon completion of the temporary visit. Because the B-1 and B-2 visas are strictly temporary, applicants must intend to maintain a foreign residence and demonstrate sufficient ties to the home country such as permanent employment, meaningful business or financial connections, close family ties, or other commitments can also indicate a strong incentive to return.
